The No. 27 Girl Guides Kingstown, the 1st Georgetown Girl Guides Company, No.24 JPEMSS and No. 16 Thomas Saunders Girl Guides concluded their World Thinking Day activities with a community outreach service in the village of Owia last Saturday.
The girls’ journey on the “New Adventure Camp” on Friday 24th to Sunday 26th February in Owia. They happily distributed groceries to the elderly around the community.
Also as part of the outreach service, books and other personal items were donated to the children in the community. The villagers were very happy to receive such warm gestures from the Girl Guides companies. The girls also embarked on a historical tour by hiking on the “Millionaire Trail” in Old Sandy.
Previous to this, the girl guides participated in a debate and reading competition under the theme: “Our World, Our Peaceful Future: The Environment, Peace and Security”. The topic for the debate was: “Climate Change is a Myth and Girl Guides all over the world should focus less on climate change advocacy and campaigns for climate resilience.”
Shania Williams of the #27 girl guides placed first in the debating competition and O’Shanna Providence of the #27 Girl Guides placed first in the reading competition. Also joining in the competitions were Girl Guides from the #24 JP Eustace Memorial Secondary School and #16 The Thomas Saunders Secondary School. Congratulations are in order for the girl guides of these companies.
