A series of murals titled, “Minus the Junk, Plus the Local, Eat Healthy, Eat Fresh” were unveiled on July 4th, at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, by an art based entity called Beaux-Arts.
The six murals were designed by Shanique Stewart, Visual Arts teacher at the Thomas SaundersSecondary School.
The project was brought to life by Stewart along with students of the Thomas Saunders
Secondary and other artists from the community. A specific area was also dedicated to the
sponsors of the project. Stewart said the aim of the project is to encourage Vincentians of all
ages to eat healthy and to realise that nutrition is just as important as exercise.
The Visual Arts teacher expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the project, who include Subway,
Digicel, ECBI, the National Sports Council, and SVG General Services Limited. However, she
said getting the project off the ground wasn’t easy. “ There were so many obstacles in terms of
getting this project done, the weather, finances, just being able to provide for the students so that
they could come out, but today I’m so grateful for the person who have pushed to help us do this
project” Stewart said.
Beaux-Arts by Shanique Stewart is a local art entity created by Shanique Stewart and also
comprise students from the Thomas Saunders Secondary School and other local artists.
