Cabinet has approved a number of initiatives which are set to kick start some major projects.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday at Cabinet Room, Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said in North Windward, Cabinet has approved the acquisition and compensation of four (4) properties to rebuild the bridge at Overland. In addition, with regards to the Coastal Sea Defense Project at Sandy Bay, approval was given for the purchase of properties and compensation for those who have to be relocated.
Approval for a contract to the OECC for the construction of a number roads amounting to 31.78 million EC dollars over a 24-month period was also given.
Dr. Gonsalves also announced that there will be an income support package for 237 arrowroot farmers at a total cost of EC 426, 401 thousand dollars. This is being provided due to the volcanic eruption and the delayed completion of arrowroot factory.
Cabinet also agreed to do some restorative work at the Brighton Beach which includes the purchase of six (6) picnic tables and table sets to expand seating. Dr. Gonsalves said Government plans to “rebuild the structure and rebuild it better ..which was at Brighton Beach belonging to Mr. Elroy “Huffles” Archer and to provide appropriate compensation.”
“I want to emphasise this was an entirely unauthorized demolition, indeed the entity which carried out the demolition does not have authority over that particular facility,” the Prime Minister said.
