interCaribbean Airways is marking a significant milestone with the introduction of its first ATR 72 turboprop aircraft, a move that reinforces the airline’s commitment to enhancing service in the Southern Caribbean region. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by the airline to increase capacity, address environmental concerns, and provide a quieter, more comfortable customer experience.
The 68-seat ATR 72, christened “Captain Harold H” in honor of long-serving Captain Harold Williams, was deployed in the Southern Caribbean on Friday, August 25th. This marks the beginning of a series of upgrades for the airline, as it is the first of 10 ATR aircraft to be incorporated over the next year. This move is in line with interCaribbean Airways’ promise to commission newer airplanes to improve passenger experiences.
The ATR 72 is renowned as the best turboprop aircraft in its class, offering outstanding short-field performance for an aircraft of its size. One of its standout features is its impressive quietness, which significantly enhances the traveling experience for passengers. Furthermore, the ATR 72 is an environmentally friendly addition to regional travel, emitting less than 50% carbon dioxide per passenger-kilometer compared to its competitors. This strategic addition aligns seamlessly with interCaribbean Airways’ dedication to minimizing its carbon footprint and preserving the natural beauty of the Caribbean islands.
Lyndon Gardiner, Founder and Chairman of interCaribbean Airways, expressed his enthusiasm about the ATR 72. “We are immensely proud to introduce an aircraft that not only addresses capacity but also redefines travel comfort. By doing so, interCaribbean Airways aims to ensure that our passengers consistently arrive on time and with peace of mind. We are excited to witness the positive impact this aircraft will have on our customers traveling in the region.”
The airline is also making strides in enhancing its operations on the ground. A well-placed source has informed us that the company has already hired top managerial positions at its hub in Barbados as it readies itself for hiring frontline customer service agents. This move will replace contracted third-party agents, ensuring a better customer experience all around.
