Nia Laborde; Miss FLOW and Contestant 6 in this year’s Miss SVG 2023 pageant launched her GECCU Miss SVG Community Service Project on Sunday, 3rd September 2023. Laborde’s Community Service Project titled “RENEWGEN” is based on the golden economy or the sunshine economy.
In her introductory presentation, Ms. Laborde shared that her community service project will focus on helping residents in her community to become more mindful of our future and the impacts of the careless use of traditional energy sources. As such, this year’s Miss Flow will inform her neighborhood about the various renewable energy sources and efficient energy-saving methods to reduce their energy costs.
On the 4th, the RENEWGEN rally was held in Sion Hill following a successful community drive-through and meet and greet. The rally which was held at the Sion Hill intersection from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. saw informative presentations from Hon. Fitz Bramble, Mr. Luke Browne, Ms. Ikarmola Laborde, and representatives from SOL Life. Artistes showing support to Miss Laborde and her cause included Amia Browne, Jasper, the JussBussCamp, Dose Up, Junction Crew, and the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra.
For the rest of the week, Nia Laborde will conduct school visits on the 6th and 7th of September 2023 where she will share with students on the golden economy with emphasis on the harmful effects of traditional energy sources. She will visit the Sion Hill Government School and the Dorsetshire Government School on the 6th of September and on the 7th of September, she will be visiting the C.W Prescod Primary School.
The RENEWGEN Exposition and Fun Day concluded the week of activities at the Roseau Recreational Park on the 9th of September, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
