The 2023 Inter Secondary Schools Football Tournament kicked off on Sunday at the Campden Park Playing Field, with the Shield Cup games. The games featured rematches of last year’s finals, between the Bishop’s College Kingstown and Central Leeward Secondary in the junior division, and the Central Leeward Secondary and Petit Bordel Secondary in the senior division.
The Central Leeward Warriors avenged their 2-1 loss to Bishop’s College in the last season’s championship game, by beating them 2-0. Jordan McKenzie opened the scoring in the 24th minute, and Jolanso Charles secured the win with an 84th minute goal.
Last year’s senior finals had to resort to penalties, for the Warriors to be crowned champions. This year, however, Central Leeward took the victory with a resounding 5-1 over the Petit Bordel Giants.
Delanzo Dickson scored first for the Warriors in minute 40, followed by Shane Miller 3 minutes later. Petit Bordel’s Akeem Nichols pulled one back in the 52nd minute, to give the North Leeward fans some hope. That hope was however dashed, when Masranny Harry scored soon after the restart. Kyle Derrick put his name on the score sheet in the 63rd minute, and Ronaldo Chambers scored, seconds before the final whistle.
