The No. 1 Kingstown Girl GuidesCompany hosted its annual Enrolment and Awards Ceremony on Friday, 19th January 2024 atthe St. Vincent Girls’ High School, Arnos Vale. The ceremony was held under the theme “Our
World; Our Thriving Future” as the local Association has commenced celebrations to mark the
110 th anniversary of girl guiding in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Additionally, the
Enrolment and Awards ceremony recognised the formal acceptance of 27 girls to the Girl
Guiding sisterhood in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines which is a part of the World Association
of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts’ 8.8 million-member family in 153 countries across the world.
Among other activities, the newly enrolled girl guides, completed scores of hours completing
community service projects, learning the basics about sign language and morse code,
participating in several other varied outdoor activities which included but were not limited to
outdoor cooking, hikes, breast cancer awareness initiatives, campaigns to end violence against
women and girls, and other initiatives to help the girl guides develop their fullest potential to
contribute meaningfully to the development of their country and world.
Topping the Pre-Promise Programme were Sarah Codougan, Ferlicia Serieux, Abigail O’Garro,
Katriel Bailey, and Deannah Blake who all attained 100%. Special awards were also attained by
Christel Sutherland of the Dragonfly Patrol for winning this year’s public speaking competition
on the topic “Violence by men against women and children has become the norm!” In 2 nd place
was Shenea Stephens and in 3 rd place was Alexis James. In the reading competition, Kerri-Ann
Greaves earned the top spot, with Sky Cato in 2 nd and Terecia Ross in 3 rd place.

The official schedule of activities for the 2nd term has since commenced and the No.1
Kingstown Girl Guides Company and sister guides across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are
preparing for more festivities the 110 th anniversary including International Camp “Camp
Hairouna” and World Thinking Day 2024 activities”.
