One such person who it has been impacted on is Sean Frederick, the Officer assigned to the Department of Culture within the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture.

Frederick revealed that he chose to do a CPE course in Public Relations Management last year, as this was a way to “wet his pallet” back into the academic sphere.

He admitted that he always had a passion for things related to marketing, public relations and even considered a career as a journalist, but he fell in love with the creative and performing arts.

Frederick however stated that the course at UWIGC allowed him to merge his two passions, because as a cultural officer, promoting and marketing events is part of his portfolio.

Now one year later as a graduate of the programme, he chimed that the course exceeded his expectations and he learned aspects such as writing press releases and networking with people.

Frederick proudly disclosed that he was among three persons selected for the Evans Bernard John Education Bursary and this financial boost change his life.

He detailed, “The bursary came to my attention through the UWI Global Campus. I thought, I might not get it, but decided to still give it a try. I was so elated when I was selected because it helped to off-set the costs of paying for the school fees.”

Frederick encouraged persons to sign up for the short courses as they bring value to their workforce and will ensure certification in their area of study.

He also said he was grateful to the the Toronto SVG Support Group who established the award in hounour of  the veteran broadcaster.

The E.B. Education John Bursary is now being offered to persons who sign up for courses in either Social Networking or Media Relations.

Applicants for the overall CPE courses are required to bring to the UWIGC office their birth certificate, any form of photo ID and copies of academic qualifications by Friday 8, March 2024.

The CPE courses are available in: Introduction to Events Management, Foundations of Records Management, E-Commerce in Modern Business, Business Writing and Communication 1 & 2, Occupational Health and Safety, Managing People Effectively, Finance for Decision Makers, Managing Conflict in the Workplace, Managing Projects for Success, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Procurement Management, Introduction to Digital Marketing, Health Care Management, Introduction to Facilities Management, Introduction to Property and Real Estate Management, Advanced Counselling Skills: Working with the Adolescent, Public Relations Management and Care of the Elderly (Blended course: Face-to-face & online)
