The Traffic Department of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force is calling on omnibus operators to bring their passengers to their desired destinations.
During WE FM’s Traffic Talk segment, Corporal 870 Woods highlighted this issue and called for it to come to an immediate stop.
“We at the Traffic Department have observed a trend of omnibus drivers not taking passengers to their final destination. For instance, if a passenger boards an omnibus at Arnos Vale, and wants to get off at Geest shed bus stop or even the windward bus terminal, the driver turns said omnibus at the High School bus stop or even at Peace Memorial Hall, letting the passenger know at the last instance,” he said.
Corporal Woods supported his call for the right action to be taken by the omnibus operators with the relevant section of the Traffic Act.
“According to the Traffic Act, every person driving an omnibus on a road shall, after acquitting the stand or garage with passengers, proceeds directly to the place or places included on the route of said omnibus and shall not delay in doing so, and shall not return to the place of departure after leaving it, except in the return journey. So I just want to urge all omnibus operators, if you are carrying passengers that you ought to take them to their final destination, do not leave them halfway, not leave Peace Mo’, leave them Sion Hill,” Corporal 870 Woods said.
Corporal Woods warned that omnibus operators that fail to comply with the Traffic Act can be prosecuted.
