No one have yet tested positive for being infected with tuberculosis (TB) at one of this country’s prison facilities.
However, it has been confirmed that personnel from the Health Department recently carried out tuberculosis tests and provided health education on the infectious respiratory ailment on prisoners and prison at the said facility.
The said action was said to be taken after a prisoner suspected of having TB recently died sources indicated.
The issue arose after attorney Grant Connell, during a sitting at the Serious Offences Court on April 16 asked Senior Magistrate Colin John that a prisoner who was before the court leave the building as soon as possible after he was heard coughing in the dock.
Connell told the court that he had heard that there was a certain disease at one of the nation’s prison facilities.
The prisoner was ordered away from the court after making his appearance.
