As St. Vincent and the Grenadines celebrate National Parks Awareness Month, it’s a great opportunity to recognize the importance of parks for young children. Rodica Tannis, the acting Director of the National Parks Authority, has emphasized the benefits of parks for kids.
Miss Tannis firmly believes that parks provide a valuable outlet for children to express themselves without relying on electronic devices. In her opinion, an inclusive playground within a park environment can make a significant difference in the lives of children, particularly those with disabilities. By removing devices from the equation, kids can come together and enjoy one another’s company while having fun. Numerous studies have shown that children who interact with others of different abilities develop more positive feelings toward others. Parks and playgrounds serve as a vital community space where children from all backgrounds can gather and play together. Miss Tannis is a strong advocate for creating more inclusive playgrounds and parks for children to enjoy.
National Parks Awareness month runs from May 1st to May 31st. The National Parks, Rivers, and Beaches Authority has already begun a series of activities.
