North Leeward is poised to make history with the launch of the first rural carnival, set to debut on Whit Monday, May 20th, at the Chateaubelair Playing Field. The event, organized by the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organization (NLSCO), carries the theme “Revel in the Excitement, Enter the Fete Zone,” promising a vibrant celebration of local culture and talent.
The launch will feature electrifying performances from some of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ most renowned artists, including Casper G, Sick-O, Dha D, Fligh, Fonando D Bambooman, and Grabba Finese. Attendees can look forward to a diverse array of activities, including Ole Mas, a spectacular costume display, junior calypso performances, and exhilarating competitions in extempo and new song categories.
Kenville Horne, the Public Relations Officer for NLSCO, emphasized the unique cultural heritage of North Leeward, urging residents and visitors alike to participate in the festivities. “North Leeward is blessed with talent and tradition, and we want to ensure this launch incorporates those qualities. We are asking for people to turn out in their numbers to make the 2024 carnival launch one to remember,” Horne stated.
Elron Lewis, President of NLSCO, highlighted the organization’s commitment to fostering local talent and culture. “We see carnival as an opportunity for North Leeward’s patriots to witness our own talent. The soca monarch competition will provide young and upcoming artists from North Leeward a platform to showcase their talent,” Lewis explained. He also underscored the economic benefits for local artists, DJs, and vendors, noting that the carnival will offer them opportunities to perform, gain exposure, and earn income.In a surprising development, Vice President Nadichia Browne announced that the Miss North Leeward Pageant will not take place this year. Despite early efforts to recruit contestants, the pageant faced challenges with participant readiness.

Browne expressed hopes to expand the pageant in future years to include contestants from the entire Leeward region, enhancing its appeal and participation.The North Leeward Carnival will unfold over several weeks, featuring a Wet Fete on June 1st, the Soca Monarch Competition on June 8th at Petit Bordel Hard Court, Kiddies Carnival on June 9th, the Nasty in White Jouvert Party on June 14th, Jouvert and Street Jump Up on June 15th, Brunch Soiree on June 16th, and culminating with the Tropical Paradise Summer Bliss on August 3rd. Browne also mentioned that some events are open to artists from outside North Leeward, with support from private promoters, ensuring a broad and inclusive celebration.As North Leeward prepares to kick off its inaugural rural carnival, the community is abuzz with anticipation, ready to celebrate its rich cultural heritage and showcase its artistic talents on a grand stage.
