Kingstown St. Vincent & the Grenadines – The World Pediatrics Orthopedic Spine Medical Team has once again made a significant impact in St. Vincent, following their recent mission in April. Led by Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. James Bennett, the team included Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Matthew Cage, Pediatric Anesthesiologist Dr. Nicole Hodge, OR Nurse Lindsey Pedersen, OR Tech Ardiana Gega, Globus Medical Product Representatives Joseph Brooks and Joseph Ratti, and Neuromonitoring Specialist Bishara Kebbe.
Local support was provided by Dr. Jasmine Davy-Ellis and the operating room staff at Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (MCMH).On Sunday, May 19, 2024, the team held an Orthopedic Spine clinic at MCMH, where 31 children with scoliosis and severe spine conditions were evaluated.
The clinic served 26 children from St. Vincent, two from Dominica, two from Grenada, and one family from Antigua. Following these assessments, eight children were selected for corrective surgeries, which were performed over the next four days from May 20 to May 23.Families expressed immense relief and excitement, grateful for the opportunity to have their children’s conditions treated.
“This surgery means a new beginning for my child,” one parent shared.The team’s efforts were made possible by the support of the NuVasive Spine Foundation, which sponsored the medical mission.
