Confidence has been expressed that the enhancement work at the Arnos Vale Playing Field is expected to be completed on time.
Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves updated the nation on the progress on May 27 during a press briefing saying that he had spoken to Deirdre Myers, of the Local Organizing Committee and one of the contractors, Dipcon.
And according to Gonsalves, based on discussions with both officials, they were both confident about the way things were coming along.
He explained the reason why the 6th light was yet to be put in place saying that there were a few small pieces that were supposed to be in the kit.
However they were short, the prime minister said.
They were expected to arrive this week, Gonsalves added.
“They are small things, you can put them in a suitcase,” he said.
The other area were the roads to be built leading into the cricket facilitysee , which according to Gonsalves, he was assured by the contractor that they would be completed by June 8 or 9.
According to Gonsalves, he was told that the one thing that could potentially hold up the road work was the availability of aggregate.
In addition to the bitumen, which is imported, aggregate is required in the construction of roads, and a particular type of aggregate which can only be sourced from a quarry through a stone crushing plant
.
And the issue was that one local quarry was just recently re-opened after being down for a while, and according to Gonsalves, the other was having issues since a change in management of the operation.
He said that he was not in the business of construction but that he wanted to get a summary view of where the work was.
“You can see that there are all technical things,” he said.
But overall, the contractor was also confident that what they were doing will be completed soon.
