Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture and Parliamentary Representative for the North Leeward Constituency, Honourable Carlos James has made the call for corporate St. Vincent and the Grenadines to support rural festivals.
Minister James made the call while addressing the media at a briefing on Tuesday at the Carnival Development Corporation’s office at Victoria Park.
The MP for North Leeward was on hand to donate some $12,000 to the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organisation (NLSCO) to cover expenses associated with the hosting of the North Leeward carnival activities.
According to Elron Lewis, President of the North Leeward Sports and Cultural Organisation (NLSCO), the North Leeward Carnival Committee relies heavily on contributions from sponsors and the CDC to host activities. He noted that the sponsorship was the largest contribution the organization had received by any individual or entity in the many years they have been hosting the rural carnival.
“We are very grateful to the MP for this support, and it will go a long way in paying a lot of bills associated with our rural carnival,” Lewis said.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture noted that more collaboration is necessary in boosting rural carnival activities across the country. In relation to the sponsorship of North Leeward carnival, the MP for North Leeward said: “I am grateful to the friends of North Leeward, who assisted in making this contribution. I want to assure the people of North Leeward that educational, cultural, and sporting activities in the constituency will always have my support.”
