Six Vincentian recruits—Akeam Hannaway (Old Montrose), Jozave Miller (Layou), Keshawn Stephens (Barrouallie), Kaicy Peniston (Bequia), Brad Richards (Sion Hill), and Romancio Lewis (Troumaca)—have successfully completed their British Army basic training at the Infantry Training Centre (ITC) Catterick.
The recruits embarked on their rigorous three-month training program on the 7th of April, 2024. The training, designed to equip them with essential military skills and disciplines, culminated in a ceremony held on the 4th of July, 2024.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of Marion Glasgow, Chairperson of the SVG Association Reading and Project Manager of the National Council of SVG Associations UK, who attended to witness this proud moment.
A special commendation goes to Keshawn Stephens, who was awarded the trophy for best performance in physical fitness.
We also want to recognize the invaluable contributions of the women involved in this achievement. Their participation and support have been integral to the success of this training program.
Marion Glasgow expressed her encouragement for others to join the British Armed Forces, stating, “I highly encourage anyone to take up the opportunity to join the British Armed Forces. The military provides unparalleled opportunities for all, with various job specifications tailored for everyone. The soldiers can now continue to help their families, friends, and loved ones, now that a new pathway has been opened to them.”
This accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and resilience of these young men and women and reflects the high standards of training and preparation provided by the British Army. It also signifies the strong bonds between Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and the United Kingdom.
Congratulations to all the recruits for their hard work and determination. We wish them continued success in their future endeavors with the British Army.
