In a concerted effort to combat beach pollution, the Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines resort’s environmental conservation group, the Earth Guardians, recently spearheaded a beach clean-up at Buccament Bay. According to a release, the initiative saw enthusiastic participation from both resort team members and local community residents.

This collaborative effort resulted in the removal of approximately 200 pounds of garbage, with additional waste materials buried in two deep holes dug by local volunteers. The Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA) played a critical role in ensuring the proper disposal of the collected waste.

The Earth Guardians, comprising 40 dedicated volunteers from the resort, are part of a larger sustainability network across all Sandals and Beaches resorts in the Caribbean. Taskia Daniel, the resort’s Environmental Health and Safety Manager, lauded the success of the event as a testament to their unwavering commitment to sustainability and community involvement.

“We are incredibly proud of our team members and the community for coming together to make a tangible impact on our environment,” said Daniel. “The success of this beach clean-up event highlights our ongoing dedication to sustainability and deepening our connection with neighboring communities.”

Public Relations Manager Jamila Soso-Vincent echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the overarching theme of sustainability within Sandals Resorts International’s operations. “Whether it involves corporate entities or citizens, we all have a responsibility to protect our environment and keep it in as pristine condition as we possibly can,” Soso-Vincent explained.

She further underscored the far-reaching implications of environmental neglect, noting that negative impacts are felt across various sectors including health, tourism, agriculture, and fisheries. “Partnering with local communities in these types of efforts is vital to ensuring that future generations will benefit from and continue to enjoy a healthy environment,” she added.

The Earth Guardians are set to continue their efforts in promoting environmental stewardship, aiming to benefit both the resort and its surrounding communities through ongoing sustainability initiatives.
