Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has called on residents in private shelters to register with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) or the Ministry of National Mobilization to ensure they receive necessary post-hurricane Beryl support. Speaking on WE FM’s “Issue At Hand” program, Dr. Gonsalves emphasized the importance of having accurate records to distribute aid effectively.
“We need to know where you are and who is hosting you,” he stated. “If we only send supplies for the guests and not the hosts, it creates inequity. We’re committed to providing for everyone, without cutting corners.”
Dr. Gonsalves referenced the successful implementation of this model following the 2021 La Soufrière volcanic eruptions, which displaced over 7,000 individuals into shelters. The Prime Minister’s appeal underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to comprehensive disaster response and support.
