    Blondie Bird and Friends Sweep Victoria Park Awards with King, Queen, and Individual of the Year Titles

    Blondie Bird and Friends continued their winning streak at the Victoria Park on August 11, clinching the King and Queen of the Band titles, along with the Individual of the Year award. Semone Richardson won Queen of the Bands with her portrayal of ‘Yaa Asantewaa – Queen of the Ashanti.’ Celina Clouden’s ‘A Look Inside the New York Aquarium’ from SVG Players International was second, and Ateika Lockhart’s ‘Bling with the Riches of the Earth’ from Verlene Ralph and the Professionals took third.

    In the King of the Band competition, Jelani Niles’s ‘African Arts and Craft’ from Blondie Bird and Friends secured first place. Atiron Lockhart’s ‘Jewel of the Seas – Docked at the SVG Cruise Ship Berth’ from Lynx Mas Band was second. A tie for third place was awarded to Chewalee Johnson’s ‘The Merry Maker of a Mad Symphony’ from Nelson Bloc and Kelvin Billinghurst’s ‘Dragon Dancer – Celebrating Chinese New Year – Year of the Dragon’ from SVG Players.

    Blondie Bird and Friends also dominated the Individual of the Year competition with ‘Yaa Asantewaa – Queen of the Ashanti.’ Nelson Bloc’s ‘The Merry Maker of a Mad Symphony’ was second, and Lynx Mas Band’s ‘Jewel of the Seas – Docked at the SVG Cruise Ship Berth’ took third.

    Other notable entries in the Queen of the Band competition included Xtreme Fanatics with ‘Brunch and Soca – Citrus,’ Beautex International with ‘Goddess of Beauty,’ My Imagination Mas Band with ‘She’s Royal,’ Nelson Bloc with ‘The Ruby Jubilee,’ Melbourne Artisans with ‘The Recycler – Tribute to Dwight Hillocks,’ and Lynx Mas Band with ‘All Aboard with Caribbean Cruise Line – Celebrating New Year’s on the Empress of the Seas.’

    In the King of the Band category, other contenders included Verlene Ralph and the Professionals with ‘Sapphire Royal,’ Xtreme Fanatics with ‘Dream There Was No Carnival,’ Beautex International with ‘Celebration of Life,’ and Melbourne Artisans with ‘Triumph of a Climate Master.’
