Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – The New Democratic Party (NDP) has officially selected Conroy Huggins as its candidate for the Central Leeward Constituency in the upcoming general elections. Huggins, a respected educator and community activist, secured the nomination following a keenly contested selection process held at the Sir James Mitchell Auditorium. His opponent in the race was Ms. Rachael Ceasar, a long-serving teacher from Barrouallie.
Huggins, who was dismissed by the current Unity Labour Party (ULP) administration due to his opposition to the government’s vaccine mandate, has built a reputation as a dedicated community advocate and contributor to the agricultural sector, both locally and internationally. As a Christian family man with deep roots in Central Leeward, Huggins has gained significant support within the constituency for his commitment to improving the lives of residents.
In his victory speech, Huggins expressed gratitude to the NDP’s Central Leeward Constituency Division for their confidence in him, noting the urgent need for stronger representation in the area. “Central Leeward is my home, where I grew up. I am committed to going above and beyond for my people,” Huggins said. “The cost of living is out of control, and too many people in Central Leeward are struggling to make ends meet. I decided to stand for the NDP to bring change to my constituency.”
NDP President, Dr. Godwin Friday, commended both Huggins and Ceasar for their dedication to the party and their communities. He praised the quality of candidates the NDP continues to attract, stating, “I look forward to the ratification process by the party’s Central Committee. The NDP is building a winning team, and there is room for all as we move forward to make our country better.”
The selection of Huggins is expected to be ratified by the NDP’s Central Committee in the coming weeks as the party prepares for the general election campaign.
