Chester Morgan, a Physical Education teacher and Track and Field coach from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, was invited to coordinate a “Kids Athletics Programme” in the Bahamas. He recently completed a three-day “Train the Trainers” workshop, involving 27 Physical Education teachers in Grand Bahamas, from September 29 to October 1, 2024. The programme, set to run from October 14 to November 23, 2024, will be implemented in 32 public and 20 private schools across the Bahamas, backed by the Bahamian Ministry of Education.
Despite his success abroad, Morgan expressed disappointment that similar efforts to introduce the programme in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were unsuccessful. He criticized local authorities for not prioritizing sports development, despite Saint Vincent and the Grenadines being considered a pioneer in “Kids Athletics” through World Athletics.
The project is financed by Olympic Solidarity, accessed through the Bahamas Athletics Association, with the Ministry of Education mandating a follow-up workshop on October 24 for all Physical Education teachers in the Bahamas.
