Deighton Butler’s appointment to the ICC’s International (Elite) Panel of Umpires marks a significant milestone for both him and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. As the first Vincentian to reach this prestigious level, Butler’s journey in cricket has been impressive.
Starting as a left-arm fast medium bowler, he represented St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the Windward Islands, eventually playing five ODIs and one T20 for the West Indies. After retiring from international cricket in 2010, Butler transitioned into umpiring, becoming an active member of the Local Cricket Umpires Association.
His officiating career reached a notable milestone in 2023 when he officiated his 50th List A match during the CG United Super 50 overs competition. Over the last five years, Butler has also made his mark in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), with five straight appointments to the playoffs and four as an on-field umpire in the finals.
Butler joins an elite group of West Indian umpires at the ICC level, including Gregory Braithwaite, Leslie Reifer, Zahid Bassarath, and Joel Wilson. Asberth News Network extends heartfelt congratulations to Deighton Butler on this remarkable achievement and wishes him continued success and impactful service in his umpiring career.
