    Marilyn John

Marilyn John was shot and killed in Murray Village on October 29, 2024, just months after she buried her son, Jomarl John. Jomarl was one of two victims fatally shot in a July 2024 incident in Pole Yard, where gunmen opened fire on a group of people, also killing 17-year-old Jason St. Rose. Another individual, Sylvanus Matthias, was injured in the attack.

Marilyn John’s murder adds to the growing list of violent crimes in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, fueling public concerns over the country’s rising homicide rate. Details surrounding her death remain sketchy at this time.

St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been facing a spike in homicides, with the country recording 55 killings last year alone

The homicide rate now stands at 36 for 2024 .
