In a groundbreaking achievement that redefines policing standards in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Superintendent Dr. Kamecia Blake has made history as the first officer within the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. The RSVGPF celebrates this milestone, which underscores Dr. Blake’s dedication to elevating professional standards and inspiring a culture of continuous learning within the force.

Dr. Blake’s academic accomplishments are unparalleled. With a PhD in Criminal Justice with a specialization in Justice Administration from Walden University, she joins an elite class of law enforcement professionals whose expertise extends far beyond traditional policing. Her distinguished academic portfolio includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of the West Indies, a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology from the University of Portsmouth, a Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice, and an MPhil in Criminal Justice. She is also a certified forensic psychologist accredited by the British Psychological Association.

Currently leading the RSVGPF’s Central Division, Dr. Blake has held significant roles within the Criminal Investigation Department and has contributed her expertise to several RSVGPF divisions, including the South Central, Western, and Grenadines Divisions. Beyond St. Vincent, she served as Manager of the Regional Security System Training Institute in Barbados, helping to modernize training practices for regional law enforcement.

Dr. Blake first joined the RSVGPF as Assistant Superintendent in 2010 through a groundbreaking graduate entry, setting a precedent for others to follow. Her work has drawn regional acclaim, including recognition by the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) for her contributions to modernizing policing, and in 2020, she received the Top Caribbean Police Officer Career Move Award from Amalgamated Security Services and the Association of Caribbean Commissioners.

Reflecting on her achievements, Dr. Blake shared: “When I joined, I hoped to shift our force from the colonial model, where recruitment focused on physical prowess, to a modern institution that values academics. Today, hundreds of officers are advancing their studies at colleges and universities, marking a significant evolution in our culture.”

She added: “To every young person with humble beginnings, particularly those in disadvantaged communities, I say dream big. Education can change your path. I grew up in Rose Place, and I’m living proof that you can overcome any circumstance through resilience and education. The journey is not for the swift, but for those who endure.”

Acting Commissioner of Police Envill Williams, along with the Gazetted Officers Corps and the entire force, praised Dr. Blake’s achievements. Commissioner Williams remarked, “Superintendent Dr. Blake exemplifies the commitment to excellence we uphold in the RSVGPF. Her journey is a testament to what can be achieved with determination and purpose.”

Dr. Blake’s accomplishments serve as a proud reminder of the RSVGPF’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering an environment where all officers are encouraged to reach new heights in service to the nation.
