The 2024-2025 cruise season is off to an impressive start in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), with more than 10,000 cruise passengers arriving in the opening week. This influx highlights SVG’s growing appeal, with arrivals extending beyond Kingstown to the Grenadine islands, including Bequia, Mayreau, Chatham Bay on Union Island, and the renowned Tobago Cays.
Port Kingstown celebrated the season’s kickoff with the arrival of Mein Schiff 2, bringing nearly 3,000 passengers eager to explore SVG’s diverse attractions. Later in the week, the Britannia anchored, adding over 4,000 visitors to the vibrant tourism surge. The week saw a significant flow of large cruise liners into Kingstown, accompanied by smaller vessels docking at various islands across the Grenadines, enhancing the visibility of SVG’s stunning archipelago.
“This milestone signifies our third consecutive year of growth in cruise arrivals,” said Hon. Carlos James, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture. “It’s a testament to the increasing allure of St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a premier Caribbean destination. We are thrilled to see record numbers of visitors exploring the unique experiences on each island, from Kingstown’s cultural heritage to the marine beauty of the Tobago Cays.”
James noted a particular increase in interest for Canouan, adding, “We are especially pleased with the heightened interest in Canouan, which will host 14 cruise calls this season compared to just five last year. This growth reflects our commitment to promoting and developing each unique destination within SVG.”
SVG remains dedicated to enhancing its offerings, with collaboration from local stakeholders to ensure memorable experiences that showcase the nation’s natural beauty, culture, and hospitality. The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) anticipates continued growth in cruise arrivals throughout the season, boosting the nation’s economy and creating opportunities for local businesses.
