Five Interactors from the Interact Club of St. Vincent Girls’ High School have received training in peace and conflict prevention, mental health matters, diabetes and obesity prevention, among other areas of focus according to Rotary International District 7030’s youth programme agenda. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of St. Vincent and chaperoned by Interact Teacher Advisor Ms. Cerelia Aberdeen, the enthusiastic Interactors welcomed the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) hosted by District 7030 in Trinidad and Tobago from November 8 – 10, 2024.
The Club was represented by President Yanni Bascombe, Vice President Mya Cumberbatch, Treasurer Nyah James, Public Image Chair Arianne Kirby, and Director Maleah Joseph. The motto of Rotary International is “Service above self”, and Interact reflects this through avenues for youths aged 12 – 18 to develop the necessary leadership skills to effectively serve their communities while fostering meaningful connections within their networks. Last weekend, RYLA provided our local Interactors with a unique opportunity to collaborate with Clubs across the District from Antigua and Barbuda in the north to Suriname in the south, working on project concepts, developing teamwork and leadership skills, and enhancing cultural awareness.
Through its youth service programmes, the Rotary Club of St. Vincent, sponsor Club of the Interact Club of St. Vincent Girls’ High School and the Rotaract Club of Kingstown fulfills its mission to serve our community, equipping our nation’s youths with the skills, attitudes and competencies required to advocate for and effect meaningful change in our world.
