Kingstown, St. Vincent & the Grenadines – World Pediatrics (“WP”) has completed their Urology clinic that took
place on Sunday November 10th 2024. The clinic was held at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital (“MCMH”) in
Kingstown where forty-one (41) children were evaluated for concerns including constant urinary tract infections,
kidney/bladder stones, bladder concerns associated with neurological disorders and any issues surrounding the
genital area. Twenty (20) of these children were regionals coming from islands such as Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts,
St. Lucia, Antigua and Dominica.
Dr. Doug Coplen, Pediatric Urologist was the head of this team. Dr. Thomas Bohannon – Anesthesiologist, Joanna
Thomeczek and Jeanne Vogt – OR Nurses made up the rest of the team. To offer local support, Dr. Jasmine Davy-
Ellis and a few MCMH staff and OR nurses joined the team on clinic day and throughout the surgical week. After
evaluating the children on clinic day, the team carefully scheduled for 18 children to undergo surgical interventions
between Monday November 11th and Thursday November 14th 2024.
Lead surgeon, Dr. Coplen expressed his pleasure in returning to SVG, emphasizing the opportunity to engage with
new families during this visit. He remarked, “It’s always rewarding to connect with the community here, and be able
to share our expertise with the local medical volunteers who participate in the clinics as well. These trips provide a
chance to contribute to the overall well-being of those in need and we always look forward to continuing this
important work.”
This team was sponsored by the Maria Holder Memorial Trust, and the staff, volunteers and families of World
Pediatrics wish to extend fervent appreciation for this invaluable donation and the support given towards achieving
the aim of healing our children in the Caribbean.
