Union Island, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – On November 14, 2024, Dwayne Corridon, a carpenter from Yambou, alleges he was the victim of police brutality while working on Union Island.
According to Corridon, the incident began late that evening when he stopped to relieve himself in a grassy area opposite a shop. He claims that an officer approached him in a police jeep, accusing him of public indecency.
“The officer told me I was disrespecting the public by urinating in the gutter,” Corridon said. “I apologized immediately and explained that the situation caught me off guard. I begged him not to take it further, but he insisted I get into the jeep.”
Corridon alleges that after being detained, the officer directed the driver to take a secluded route.
“When we got to a dark area, the officer told the driver to stop. That’s when he started hitting me,” Corridon recounted.
He further claimed that the officer struck him with a flashlight in his head and ordered him to discard his bloody shirt.
“I walked down to the home where I was staying, bleeding, and was taken to the hospital by a neighbor,” Corridon said. “The doctor treated my injuries and gave me a medical report. I then went to the Union Island Police Station in Ashton to file a complaint.”
Corridon expressed frustration with the situation, stating, “I didn’t resist or fight back. I don’t deserve this.”
When asked about his relationship with the officers involved, Corridon denied any prior conflict.
Corridon is now awaiting further documentation from the hospital and hopes that his case will be thoroughly investigated.

Corridon is calling for an independent investigation and is considering legal action to ensure justice is served.
