Nothing came off, and nothing went on an aircraft that landed at the jetport in Canouan
Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr Ralph Gonsalves briefed the nation on the details that he said that he had received as it pertained to the matter.
He said that he had received reports from Commissioner of Police, Enville Williams and Andrea Best, Director of Civil Aviation in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
It was determined that the plane with registration number N674JM, departed from the Dominican Republic before arriving here, Gonsalves said.
And based on the intelligence, it has been determined that the aircraft was bound for the Argyle International Airport (AIA).
According to Gonsalves, it was later discovered that there was an error in the intelligence and that the aircraft was in fact going to Canouan.
“When we found out that it was in fact going to Canouan, the security forces were mobilized,” he said.
Gonsalves said that he had been further advised that there were about two or three passengers on board who had reservations at a guest house on Canouan who disembarked the aircraft and the plane was subsequently searched.
“It may well be that something was to go on, I don’t know,” the prime minister said.
Or there could have been compartments on the aircraft that were not searched and in the absence of a canine unit, he suggested that anything illegal could not have been detected.
“But if that is the case, that is somebody else’s challenge somewhere else,” he said.
The important thing was that nothing came off, and nothing went on according to Gonsalves.
The plane is said to have overnighted, and Gonsalves said that it remained under security surveillance until its departure the following day.
According to Gonsalves, the authorities became suspicious after it became known that the aircraft was one such as that which ‘disappeared’ shortly after taking-off from Canouan back in December 2023.
the prime minister, in addressing that issue, noted that the transponder may have been turned off.
That plane, N337LR, is said to have resurfaced in the West African nation of Ghana and was implicated in a cocaine matter.
