Over 500 students at various academic levels will benefit from bursaries provided by the Republic of China (Taiwan). The first set of bursaries was distributed on Monday during a ceremony at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, Villa Campus.
The initiative targets students from primary, secondary, and technical institutions on the Windward side of the island, Kingstown, the Marriaqua Valley, and surrounding areas, as well as those attending the SVG Community College.
Speaking at the event, Taiwan’s Ambassador to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Her Excellency Fiona Fan, explained that the bursaries are part of the Human Development Resource Programme, a collaborative effort between the two nations.
“These scholarships are a testament to the strong ties between Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines,” Ambassador Fan said. “They reflect our shared commitment to empowering the youth and fostering sustainable growth.”
Ambassador Fan also announced that Taiwan plans to increase the number of scholarships available to Vincentian students studying in Taiwan beginning in 2025.
Additionally, she highlighted Taiwan’s broader contributions to the country, including funding major infrastructural projects. “Taiwan’s partnership with St. Vincent and the Grenadines goes beyond infrastructure. We are deeply committed to contributing to the nation’s sustainable development,” she noted.
The bursary programme continues to provide vital support for students while reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
