Kaschaka Cupid has been selected as the New Democratic Party’s (NDP) candidate for West St. George in the 2025 general elections in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Cupid emerged victorious in a highly anticipated runoff against Louise Mitchell, daughter of the late Sir James Mitchell, who was the country’s second Prime Minister and a co-founder of the NDP.
The runoff, held at the NDP’s headquarters in Kingstown, saw Cupid secure the nomination by a significant margin, signaling strong party support for his candidacy. Mitchell’s defeat highlights a shift within the NDP as they look to field candidates with broader appeal to the electorate, particularly in key constituencies.
This decision forms part of the NDP’s broader strategy as they finalize their slate of candidates ahead of the elections. Cupid’s selection follows the recent announcement of Cricket West Indies President Kishore Shallow as the party’s candidate for North Leeward, signaling a focus on new, dynamic leadership.
As the 2025 elections draw nearer, the NDP is positioning itself to challenge the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) by presenting candidates like Cupid who combine fresh perspectives with the determination to address pressing issues in their constituencies.
