Kenroy Pierre takes home a green thumb triumph at the 2024 Tourism Awards
Sandals Saint Vincent and the Grenadines proudly celebrates one of its own, Kenroy Pierre, who was awarded Gardener of the Year 2024 at the SVG Hotel and Tourism Association Awards.
Pierre, a 60-year-old landscaper from Rose Bank, joined Sandals on January 22, 2024, and has quickly become a cornerstone of the resort’s lush beauty. A lifelong connection to the land has shaped his craft, and this recognition marks the pinnacle of his passion and dedication.
“I really love the work, and I am doing my best. I didn’t just come for the money—I also came to improve my skills and be a part of this historic resort,” Kenroy shared. “I want to help make the grounds of Sandals Saint Vincent the best in the Caribbean!”
Supported by his family, including his wife of 24 years and his daughter, who encouraged him to apply for the position, Kenroy has embraced the opportunity to grow. He has already completed five courses through Sandals Corporate University, with plans for further training.
Kenroy’s managers nominated him for the award in secret, a gesture that left him both surprised and elated. Reflecting on the moment he collected his trophy, he said, “My body felt so light—I couldn’t believe this was happening!”
The award is now proudly displayed in Kenroy’s home, symbolizing his hard work and contribution to the resort. Johann Dippenaar, Sandals Resorts Landscaping Project Manager, praised Kenroy’s dedication:
“He is a positive example for the rest of the team and always willing to share advice or ideas. His attitude to work is contagious.”
Kenroy’s story is not just one of individual triumph but also a testament to Sandals Saint Vincent’s commitment to excellence and the transformative power of tourism in the Caribbean.
