The modern Kingstown Port is on track to be fully operational by mid-2025, with 82% of construction already completed. According to Minister of Finance Hon. Camillo Gonsalves, the project has significantly impacted the local economy, directly retaining $95 million through local purchases and salaries, with subcontractor activities contributing even more. Currently, 169 Vincentians are employed on the site.
The 2025 Budget has allocated $92.6 million to finalize the port’s completion. Key tasks for this phase include:
- Building a container freight station.
- Constructing administrative and maintenance workshop buildings with interior finishing, elevators, and solar panels.
- Completing a maintenance garage and Break Bulk Warehouse.
- Installing pavement and operational facilities.
- Upgrading utilities, including potable water, sewer lines, and fire lines.
- Landscaping and roadworks.
- Commissioning and testing the entire facility.
This state-of-the-art port aims to enhance Vincentian trade and connectivity while contributing to the local economy.
