Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, leader of the Unity Labour Party (ULP), has expressed strong confidence in securing a sixth consecutive term in office. In a recent interview with ANN, he highlighted several key projects that he believes will resonate with voters, including the Acute Referral Hospital, the modern port development, new clinics, and major road, repairs sea defenses and his government works over the pass 25 years . He emphasized that these initiatives demonstrate the ULP’s commitment to advancing the nation’s infrastructure and healthcare services.
Dr. Gonsalves also announced a strategic refresh of the party’s slate of candidates, introducing six new individuals for the upcoming election. The new candidates will represent constituencies in West Kingstown, South Leeward, North Windward, Central Kingstown South Windward, and the Southern Grenadines. He specifically mentioned the selection process in South Leeward, where Granville Williams is expected to receive overwhelming support from the constituency council, as he faces no challengers.
Reflecting on the caliber of the new candidates, Dr. Gonsalves stated, “Look at Grace, Kiesal, and Grenville; any political party in the Caribbean, the USA, and the British Parliament would love to have them.” This statement underscores his confidence in the team’s ability to effectively represent and serve their constituencies.
Runoff in the other three consisutency is expected as there are more than one candidate has shown interest.
The ULP has been in power since 2001, with Dr. Gonsalves at the helm. Under his leadership, the party secured its fifth consecutive victory in the 2020 general elections, winning nine out of fifteen seats in the House of Assembly.
