Community activist and educator Darron Rodan John has officially announced his intention to seek the Unity Labour Party’s (ULP) nomination for the South Windward constituency in the upcoming general elections. This development follows the retirement announcement of current Parliamentary Representative and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frederick Stephenson, who has held the seat since 2010.
John, 34, brings a background in information technology and education to his political aspirations. He currently serves as an ICT lecturer at the St. Vincent Community College and is pursuing a PhD in Business Administration, focusing on technology adoption in financial services. His community involvement includes over 15 years with the South Windward ULP campaign team and recent grassroots initiatives, such as distributing care packages to constituents during the holiday season.
In outlining his vision for South Windward, John emphasizes transforming the area into a tourism hub by leveraging assets like the Argyle International Airport and the forthcoming Holiday Inn Hotel. He also prioritizes infrastructure development, youth engagement, and enhancing residents’ quality of life through education, sports, and social programs.
Acknowledging other potential candidates, such as Bernard Louis Daisley, a construction manager with the National Roads Rehabilitation Project, John remains confident that his blend of community involvement and professional expertise positions him as the ideal successor to continue the constituency’s development.
As the ULP’s candidate selection process unfolds, John’s entry into the race adds a dynamic element to the political landscape of South Windward, signaling a potential shift toward youthful leadership and innovative development strategies.
