The Senator and Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly Ashelle Morgan responded to a question from Asberth News Network (ANN) regarding her interest in running in South Windward, where she resides. ANN was following a lead from a credible source that the senator had shown interest in securing the ULP nomination over Rodan John and Louis Daisley, her great-uncle, both of whom have also expressed their desire to contest the seat.
When contacted, the senator dismissed the inquiry, stating, “Thanks for reaching out, but I don’t wish to be interviewed by the Commess News Network. Have a blessed day.”
One of the candidates hoping to get the ULP nod confirmed to ANN that the senator had approached him and expressed her interest in entering the race in South Windward. This publication was surprised by the senator’s response and speculated whether her reaction was linked to ANN’s coverage of the controversial case in which
Morgan, a Diamond resident, was accused that she, on April 13, 2021 at Diamond, assaulted Cornelius John of Diamond with intent to commit the offense of wounding she was subsequently acquitted of the charge .
Since its inception, ANN has interviewed high-profile figures, including Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, Opposition leader Dr, Godwin Friday ,regional dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Grenada, former Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Court Justice Saunders, and the President of Cricket West Indies, Dr. Kishore Shallow.
The ULP is seeking a historic sixth consecutive term in office and is expected to finalize its full slate of candidates soon. South Windward remains one of the constituencies where a candidate has not yet been officially announced. Sources indicate that the party hierarchy is backing Senator Morgan, while the constituency is reportedly split between supporting Louis Daisley and Rodan John.
Some constituents believe the party’s best chance of retaining the seat lies in keeping the current representative, Gustaus Stevenson. Meanwhile, the opposition New Democratic Party (NDP) has confirmed that Andrew John, a retired teacher and community activist, will be their candidate for South Windward.
