Kingstown, St. Vincent – In a significant boost to education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Taiwan-based charitable organization TX Foundation (慈行基金會) has completed a series of classroom retrofitting projects and donated educational equipment to three local schools. The ceremonies, held on February 27, 2025, marked the inauguration of a culinary vocational classroom at West St. George Secondary School, the donation of assistive devices for visually impaired students at Fair Hall Government School, and the opening of a new science laboratory at Troumaca Ontario Secondary School.
The initiative, valued at nearly USD 110,000, was led by TX Foundation President Mrs. Liza Lin, alongside CEO Ms. Freda Miriklis and Secretary Ms. Anna Hsieh. The events were co-hosted by Hon. Curtis King, Minister of Education, and H.E. Fiona Fan, Taiwan’s Ambassador to SVG. Also in attendance were senior education officials, school principals, teachers, and students.
Hon. Keisal Peters, Minister of Social Development, participated in the West St. George ceremony, while Hon. Carlos James, Minister of Tourism, attended the event at Troumaca Ontario Secondary School. Minister King expressed gratitude for the foundation’s support, emphasizing the importance of technical and vocational education (TVET) in equipping students with practical skills for future careers.
Ambassador Fan praised the TX Foundation’s commitment to fostering educational development in SVG and encouraged students to take advantage of Taiwanese government scholarships for further studies in Taiwan.
The TX Foundation has previously contributed to educational and healthcare projects in Asia, South America, the Caribbean, and Africa. In 2024, the foundation expanded its efforts to the Caribbean, launching educational support initiatives in Suriname, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The newly retrofitted classrooms and donated equipment are expected to enhance learning opportunities and provide students with critical resources for their academic and vocational development.
