Three key components of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) have put forward proposals to honour outstanding contributors to Calypso, Steel Pan, and Mas for their decades of service and cultural impact in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Calypso Association, led by its President Mr. Earl Bennett, has proposed the name of Mr. Robert “Patches” Knights for national recognition. The proposal was recently submitted to the CDC according to Bennett
“Patches’ contribution to Calypso spans over 40 years. He has been an exceptional performer, a talented musician, and a mentor to many young Calypsonians,” Bennett told Asberth News Network. “It’s only right that we honour him while he’s alive and able to receive the recognition he deserves.”
The Youlou pan movement has also proposed honouring Mr. Roddy Dowers, a veteran panman with over 30 years of service to the Starlift Steel Orchestra. Dowers has played an integral role in the orchestra’s success both as a long-standing player and through his work in its management. His dedication has helped sustain and advance the steel pan movement in the country.
Meanwhile, the Carnival Bands Incorporated (CBI) has officially submitted three leading mas bands to the CDC for consideration:
Blondie Bird and Friends
Melbourne Artisans
Beautex International
These bands have made significant contributions to the development of Vincentian mas, consistently delivering high standards in creativity, design, and cultural representation on the road and stage.
The CDC is expected to review these proposals as part of its ongoing efforts to acknowledge and honour cultural excellence within the components of Vincy Ma
