KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES; MONDAY JUNE 16, 2025 – St. Vincent and the Grenadines will host the 2025 edition of the prestigious Windward Islands School Games from July 26 to August 3, 2025. The event will welcome 62 athletes and officials each from Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, and the host nation as they compete in a variety of disciplines including track and field, netball, football, volleyball, and basketball.
Sponsored by Canadian Bank Note and the Windward Islands Lotteries, the Windward Islands School Games are hailed as one of the oldest inter-school sporting events in the world, dating back to circa 1912. The tournament is known not only for athletic excellence but also for fostering regional camaraderie and youth development.
Preparations are already in full swing. On May 22, 2025, the Directors of Sports from the four participating islands convened in Kingstown to begin coordination efforts for this year’s games.
Speaking at the opening of that planning meeting, SVG’s Minister for Sports, Dr. Orando Brewster, emphasized the importance of the event:
> “We have to make sure that it is held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Here we are today, with all of the stakeholders, making sure that we plan to perfection — not perfection that becomes the enemy of the greater good, but ensuring all the pieces are in place for a successful Windward Games 2025.”
Dr. Brewster also expressed his optimism about the role of the Games in shaping young minds:
> “As the Minister of Sports, I have high expectations from our young people. The Games are not only about competition. Sports are played on and off the field — our athletes are ambassadors for their countries.”
The Windward Islands School Games continue to serve as a launchpad for sporting talent across the region while promoting unity and cultural exchange among the youth of the Windward islands
