KINGSTOWN, ST. VINCENT – The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, through its Department of Culture, has unveiled a vibrant new mural just outside Victoria Park as part of its Annual Mural Competition. The initiative aims to nurture visual arts across St. Vincent and the Grenadines while celebrating the rich heritage of VincyMas.
This year’s winning artists are Cheneill Barker and Destiny Hooper of the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, and Talonie Tucker of the Girls’ High School. The students collaborated under the mentorship of Shanique Stewart, Visual Arts Development Officer at the Department of Culture.
Speaking with the Agency for Public Information (API), Stewart expressed pride in the students’ creativity and their contribution to national beautification.
> “Together, they have brought life, color, and history to a prominent public space,” she said. “This location was chosen because of its rich artistic and cultural ties. Working with these talented students was refreshing—they brought energy and imagination, and I know they’ll remember this moment forever. This is just the beginning.”
The mural has already begun attracting admiration from commuters, hospital staff, and carnival enthusiasts. Stewart also emphasized the Ministry’s broader vision to expand public art initiatives nationwide, including the development of murals, sculptures, digital art, and interactive installations.
The project was made possible through generous support from GECCU, ECGC, TUS-T Water, Facey Trading, KFC, Carnival Development Corporation (CDC), National Lotteries Authority, and the Call Out Nation Social Club.
