KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – The New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for North Leeward in the upcoming general elections has heaped praise on the current opposition members in Parliament, describing their commitment as commendable despite the challenges of operating outside of government.

Speaking on BOOM FM on Tuesday morning with host Dwight “Bing” Joseph, the candidate, Benjamin “Shallow” Shallow, expressed deep respect for the tireless efforts of the party’s elected Members of Parliament, including party Chairman Major St. Clair Leacock, MP for West Kingstown Daniel Cummings, Opposition Leader Dr. Godwin Friday, and others.

“Politics is an ungrateful job, and that’s why I have so much respect for people like Major, Cummings, Dr. Friday, and the other elected members of our party,” Shallow said. “It’s not the same when you are given a seat and a ministry in government. These guys have been in opposition for years, yet they continue to do a tremendous job.”

Shallow highlighted the level of dedication these opposition MPs have shown, noting that constituents consistently call on their time, energy, and limited resources. “People demand their time and resources, and they’ve been doing it for years,” he stated.

He also reflected on the experience of former North Leeward MP Roland “Patel” Matthews, saying, “Patel won his seat, yes—but he was in opposition. I don’t think these guys are getting the credit they deserve.”

Shallow insisted that despite being out of office, the NDP representatives have delivered outstanding service to their constituencies and the country at large. “They are doing an incredible job,” he emphasized.

The New Democratic Party is expected to intensify its campaign in the coming months, with candidates like Shallow seeking to build momentum ahead of the next general elections.
