    The legacy of the late veteran broadcaster Evans “E.B.” Bernard John continues to make an impact through the Evans “E.B.” Bernard John Memorial Bursary.

    On Friday, July 4th, the founders of the bursary—The Toronto SVG Support Group and Lions Club South—awarded this year’s bursary to two recipients: Morissa Morgan and Patlin Leacock.

    The bursary supports students enrolled in the Public Relations Management Continuing and Professional Education short course offered online by The UWI Global Campus, St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

    Sandra Bobb, President of The Toronto SVG Support Group, expressed appreciation to those who support the bursary program through donations and fundraising. She noted that six students have benefitted from the bursary to date, with this being the third year of its issuance.

    Michael John, President of Lions Club South, spoke fondly of E.B. John, describing him as a true champion of volunteerism and community service.

    Dr. Resa Noel-McBarnett, Head of the UWI Global Campus SVG, thanked both organisations for honouring the memory of the former Consul General of Toronto and Manager of NBC Radio by providing educational support to Vincentian students.

    On behalf of the 2025 recipients, Morissa Morgan expressed gratitude to the supporting organisations, tutor Colvin Harry, and the UWI Global Campus for enabling students to pursue their academic goals.

    The first-ever recipient, Lucinna Poyer, also shared her personal reflection and expressed sincere appreciation to all those who made the opportunity possible.

    The Evans “E.B.” Bernard John Memorial Bursary was launched in August 2021 and first awarded in 2022. It was established by the Toronto SVG Support Group in memory of E.B. John, a founding member of the group and a respected former Consul General of Toronto. The bursary is awarded annually to Vincentian students pursuing studies—especially in Public Relations Management and Communication—at The University of the West Indies Global Campus in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

    This tribute honours E.B. John’s passion for fostering positive connections among Vincentians in the diaspora and for supporting national development initiatives in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
