Kingstown, July 21, 2025 – The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) has once again demonstrated its steadfast commitment to youth development with the official launch of the 2025 Police Band Summer Programme on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Peace Memorial Hall.

Held under the theme “Harnessing Young Minds During Summer Time,” the programme reflects the RSVGPF’s broader mission: to steer young people away from negative influences and guide them towards becoming confident, responsible, and service-oriented citizens.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Commissioner of Police, Mr. Enville Williams, Superintendent Hesran Ballantyne highlighted the program’s far-reaching impact beyond musical instruction. While participants will receive hands-on training in instruments such as the saxophone, steel pan, and clarinet, the true emphasis is on developing character, discipline, cooperation, and respect.

“Under the mentorship of uniformed officers, children learn not just how to play notes, but how to work as a team, practice self-control, and become respectful citizens,” Superintendent Ballantyne said.

The Police Band Summer Programme is part of a wider slate of youth-oriented initiatives led by the RSVGPF, including the Police Youth Clubs, Coast Guard Youth Development Programme, and PYC Summer Camps. These initiatives collectively promote civic awareness, personal development, and national pride.

Special recognition was given to Inspector Vaughn Miller, Band Master and coordinator of the programme, for his outstanding leadership and ongoing dedication to youth engagement.

Targeted at children aged 9 to 15, this year’s programme takes a holistic approach, blending music education with sports and interactive sessions on critical social issues such as bullying, substance abuse, and human trafficking.

Guest speaker Mrs. Marla Nanton James delivered an inspiring message, urging participants to “listen attentively, try fearlessly, and support one another.” She reminded all present that music is a shared journey—one that thrives on curiosity, courage, and community.

As music fills the air and children grow into learners, collaborators, and future leaders, the 2025 Police Band Summer Programme stands as a shining example of how law enforcement can positively engage with youth. More than just a summer activity, it is a transformative space where talent is nurtured, values are instilled, and tomorrow’s changemakers are molded through the powerful language of music and mentorship.
