The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Chess Federation (SVGCF) is celebrating a proud moment as young chess prodigy Vedant Shetty secured third place in the Under-10 Absolute Rapid Tournament at the 35th Pan American Youth Chess Championship, held in Peru from July 27 to August 3, 2025.
This remarkable achievement adds to Vedant’s growing list of accolades, following his first-place finish in the Under-8 category at the XIX Central America and Caribbean Youth Chess Festival 2024. Vedant’s consistent performance on the international stage reflects not only his talent and discipline but also the potential of SVG’s emerging youth chess scene.
The SVGCF proudly extends its congratulations to Vedant on his outstanding performance, which demonstrated both strategic depth and competitive resilience among some of the best young players from across the globe.
In line with its mission to nurture more future champions, the SVGCF has launched its first-ever Youth Chess Summer Program, currently underway at the St. Vincent Grammar School. The initiative, part of the Federation’s grassroots development strategy, aims to introduce more children to the game of chess and prepare them for international competition.
The summer program is facilitated by Mr. Oris Robinson, a committee member of the SVGCF, and coordinated by Mrs. Ronnia Durham-Balcombe, Vice President of the SVGCF.
With initiatives like this, the SVGCF is laying a strong foundation for a new generation of chess talent in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
