Gros Islet, Saint Lucia – August 8, 2025 – The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Senior Men’s 15s put on a commanding performance to defeat Saint Lucia 50–22 in the Rugby Americas North Test Match at the Gros Islet Sports Facility.

Leading the charge was none other than SVG Rugby Union President Dellon D Durrant, who put aside his administrative role to don the national jersey once again. In a stunning MVP performance, Durrant crossed the try line four times, showcasing explosive power, sharp support play, and a relentless drive that set the standard for the entire team.

SVG’s game plan was clear from the start apply pressure, win the collisions, and strike with precision. After Saint Lucia opened the scoring in the 13th minute, SVG quickly responded with tries from Durrant, Kevin King, and Dugal James, capitalizing on turnovers and dominating at the breakdown. Despite an early yellow card and a 15–12 deficit early in the second half, SVG’s composure never wavered.

The turning point came between the 53rd and 68th minutes, when SVG ran in four tries in rapid succession two from Durrant, one from Kenmore Horne, and one from Leonardo Caine stretching the lead beyond Saint Lucia’s reach. The forward pack delivered powerful scrummaging and secured clean lineout ball, while the backs displayed pace and vision, punishing gaps in the home team’s defense.

Kevin Cain’s accurate conversions added crucial points, and the defensive line stayed organized under pressure, limiting Saint Lucia’s ability to sustain attacking phases. By the closing stages, SVG’s dominance was clear, with Durrant sealing his fourth try in the 84th minute to complete a personal and team triumph.

Speaking after the match, Dellon D Durrant said:
“Tonight, I put down my hat as President and picked up my hat as a player. The boys delivered a performance full of discipline, skill, and unity. We’re building a system to last for years to come, and we’re starting to see the results. I’m proud of every player and member of staff who made this win possible.”
This victory not only cements SVG’s growing presence in the Rugby Americas North region but also stands as a showcase of the Union’s development strategy in action where leadership, preparation, and on-field execution come together to deliver results.
