An 8-year-old boy from South Rivers is now conscious and speaking after spending days unresponsive in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital following an incident last Friday at the South Rivers playing field.

The child, identified as Josiah Williams, also known as “Nomo,” had gone to watch a cricket game with his family, as they often do. Josiah’s mother told ANN that her son received $10 from her boyfriend—who is not Josiah’s biological father but is regarded as “dad”—to buy fried chicken. His elder brother also gave him money for a drink, which he shared with other children at the game.

According to his mother, a 10-year-old girl from the same area allegedly took Josiah’s slippers (Crocs) and attempted to remove the GBT from them. Josiah reportedly pleaded with her not to do so. The girl is said to have placed the slippers high up on the stand, and when Josiah tried to retrieve them, he was allegedly pushed.

The mother expressed shock, saying her son was happy one moment and then lying in the hospital unresponsive. His brother, in tears, told ANN last week that he was on his way to see the Prime Minister to request government assistance.

Now, with Josiah awake and able to speak, the family says they are extremely grateful for all the prayers and support received so far, and they are asking the public to continue keeping him in their prayers as he recovers.
