Lauders, St. Vincent – Israel Bruce, the New Democratic Party (NDP) candidate for South Central Windward, on Saturday unveiled a comprehensive 25-point development plan aimed at tackling unemployment, boosting economic growth, and improving community infrastructure in the constituency.

Speaking to a large gathering, Bruce shared his personal story of resilience, saying he knows firsthand what it means to live in poverty.

“I grew up in a trash house, went to Lauders Primary School barefoot, and passed the Common Entrance Exam to attend the Adelphi Secondary School,” he recalled. “From there, I went straight into teaching.”

Bruce told supporters that he later attended the Teachers’ College before returning to the classroom. When he applied for no-pay leave to pursue his law degree, his request was denied.

“I left the job and took a position with the sponsorship programme to work with delinquent fathers,” he said. “I wasn’t fortunate like others to receive a scholarship. I had to use my parents’ deed to secure a loan for my law degree.”

Highlighting his own struggles, Bruce said this was the driving force behind his commitment to helping others break free from poverty.

“I know what poverty is, and I know the struggles. That is why I am here—to help you out of poverty,” Bruce declared. “Vote for me and the New Democratic Party on election day, and together we will lift South Central Windward.”
