KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – Vincentians are being urged to showcase their cultural pride every Friday up to September 5th, 2025, by participating in the national “Wear Yo Heritage” initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture.
The campaign, which began on Friday, August 1st, forms part of the Emancipation Month activities and encourages citizens, public servants, and private sector employees to wear national dress, African wear, or other culturally inspired clothing that reflects the richness and diversity of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
According to the Ministry, the weekly activity is intended not only as a visual celebration of heritage but also as an opportunity to inspire conversations about culture, history, and identity, fostering intergenerational appreciation for Vincentian traditions.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Tamira Browne, highlighted the deeper significance of the initiative, stating:
“Wearing heritage is more than clothing, it is a statement of who we are as a people. This initiative is about ensuring that every Vincentian feels a sense of belonging and pride in their roots, while contributing to a vibrant display of our collective identity.”
The “Wear Yo Heritage” campaign continues on Friday, August 22nd, Friday, August 29th, and will culminate on Friday, September 5th, 2025. That final showcase, to be staged at the Car Park outside the Ministerial Building in Kingstown, will mark the climax of the Emancipation Month activities and serve as the national pre-celebration of Africa-CARICOM Day, observed annually on September 7th.
The Ministry is encouraging all Vincentians to participate actively, share their personal expressions of heritage, and contribute to building a society rooted in cultural awareness, pride, and unity
