Where to begin? Many of us were quite elated when we found out that it would be one of our very own MHRC staff members was going to be our SNO; never to know what was coming.

What I don’t understand is how can someone that has worked at Mental Health Rehabilitation Center (MHRC) for years as a Staff nurse come and add pressure instead of change.  She doesn’t show respect to her staff and expects to be respected in return. She is very scornful towards workers; looks down on workers like what we would say in our vincy slang “like she more than them” making workers feel worthless. Talks down on workers and threatens workers with their evaluations.

Threatening workers to look for a babysitter to stay with their child and they could hardly make ends meet as it is with their salary, instead of trying to accommodate persons requests. If you are not one of her favorites then “crapo smoke yo pipe”, because favoritism runs MHRC.

Then there is a ward manger on female ward and she makes me very fearful for my life because if she can knock down a civilian and leave her on the roadside what would she do to me. Police officers coming on the compound to look for her, Is this who we really want as a manger? This said ward manager tells the most lies on staff. She reports lies about staff members to the Departmental manager and the SNO and sadly they believe the lies.

To be favored on that ward you have to be “buddy buddy” with her as old people say. Workers are in fear because they don’t know what lies she would tell on them next. One staff Nurse to 40 plus patients and she would refuse to help the nurse with the workload. On weekends when her shift is suppose to start at 7:00am she shows at 11:00 to only stay for 2 hours.

If we were to that we would be reported. She refuses to answer her phone when a shift needs to be covered therefore forcing the nurse to work a double shift. Everyday making people’s life a living hell instead of doing the job you get paid to do. I don’t
know what modeling agency is at MHRC because all she does is walk and model like she’s on a runway. This ward manager need to be demoted back to a staff nurse.

In all my years at MHRC I never saw a clerk taking responsibility for our duty; I know is the departmental manager is the one that looks over the duty I never knew it was the clerk. Just imagine u are waiting on your duty to make provisions for the next week and the duty never comes out until Friday evening when the office is ready to be closed.

We are told if we have a problem with the duty to come to the office, how can we come to the office when it is closed on the weekend? Allocating a different staff nurse each month to set the duty but you are going to change it anyway. For this reason many staff members are burned out and over worked because of mismanagement and micro managing. Some of us even end up working 5-7 days before a day off. Sometimes we are to work two night duties back to back with one day off and we are to return to work the following day. What kind of heartless human would give someone a duty like that? We as health care workers sometimes to are our own worst enemies because why are we not our brothers and sisters keeper? At times when we are to stick together we pull down one another in what we may call “crab in a barrel mentality.

The male ward has mold for quite some time now and it’s making workers sick with different respiratory problems. The office area had one small spec of mold and was shut down for almost a week and treated, while us on the ward have to be working in a moldy environment.

Not forgetting that the patients are at risk here also. We cannot strike or protest because as coworkers we are against each other; workers who are friends with management would not budge. I really don’t think no one cares about our health and well being, no one to advocate for our health as health care workers.

They are busy focusing on caps, belts and who has in 2 earrings we don’t have equipment to work with like blood pressure cuff and thermometers.

We have been begging for blood pressure cuff for the longest time; we have to be bringing our personal stuff to work. Focus on the fact the mold is affecting us. Focus on the fact that its one staff nurse to 100 plus patients at times. Focus on the fact that we are not robots. Focus on the fact we are burned out and overworked to often. Focus on the fact that some workers get more preferences than others which is quite unfair

. This is just the beginning because I still haven’t said anything yet; might as well do a part 2 and air it all out.
