Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – September 3, 2025 – District Stairs SVG Ltd., led by entrepreneur Mr. Marlon Bute, has once again demonstrated its commitment to rehabilitation and community development by donating a table saw valued at EC$2,500 to His Majesty’s Prison.

The saw was formally handed over by Ms. Zoe Porter, Store Manager of District Stairs SVG, to Senior Prison Officer Gareth Clarke, who accepted the donation on behalf of Superintendent of Prisons (Ag.), Mr. Dwayne Bailey and the inmates.

    In his remarks, Clarke stated:

“On behalf of Mr. Dwayne Bailey – Superintendent of Prisons (Acting) and the inmates at the Prisons I extend heartfelt thanks to District Stairs, particularly Mr. Marlon Bute, for this generous donation of a Table Saw. This gesture is not just a contribution of equipment but a meaningful investment in the lives of the men entrusted to our care at the Prisons.

At the Prisons, rehabilitation is at the heart of our mission. We believe that by equipping inmates with practical skills we are giving them a second chance at life, an opportunity to contribute positively to their families and our communities upon release. This table saw will play an important role in our Carpentry and Vocational Training Programs where inmates will learn craftsmanship, discipline, and the value of honest work.

Mr. Bute, your partnership in this effort reflects a strong community spirit. It shows that rehabilitation is not the task of the Prisons alone, but a shared responsibility in which we all have a part to play. We are deeply grateful for your support and we assure you that this tool will be put to good use in building not just furniture but brighter futures.

Once again, thank you for your generosity and commitment. Together we can make rehabilitation more effective and meaningful.”

District Stairs SVG is no stranger to supporting national institutions and rehabilitation programs. In December 2022, Mr. Bute donated a range of woodworking tools — including drills, a jigsaw, a belt sander, saw blades, and a 195-piece drill set — which continue to be used in carpentry workshops to this day. More recently, the company also renovated the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force, further underlining its dedication to supporting public service institutions.

Speaking on behalf of District Stairs SVG, Mr. Bute emphasized the company’s philosophy:

“When we invested in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a business proposition, we also considered it our duty to invest in the country’s development. This gesture is a way of showing our appreciation for our people, our love for our country, and our commitment to its progress. We look forward to working with the Prison Service and other organizations in the future so that together we can build a true community approach to the development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

The partnership highlights how private businesses can contribute to national development not only through commerce but also by creating opportunities for skill-building and second chances. District Stairs SVG’s donation ensures that the inmates’ carpentry and vocational training program will remain equipped with modern tools to provide practical, life-changing skills.
